Comparison · Tab

A Tab alternative with payment links built in

Tab made a name for itself with the tap-each-item-to-assign UI for splitting a check. SplitterBot adopts the same core idea — scan the receipt, tap who had what — and adds proportional tax-and-tip math, quantity-based shares, and a one-tap payment link sent to each person.

Short verdict

If you like Tab's tap-to-assign workflow but want SplitterBot's proportional math, payment-link generation, and active cross-platform support, switch.

What Tab does well

  • A clean, intuitive UI for assigning items by tapping.
  • A visual approach that's easy to demo at the table.
  • Established as a category-defining app for receipt-based splitting.

Where it falls short

  • Tax, tip, and fee math isn't always proportional out of the box — fair splits often need manual adjustment.
  • No first-class payment-link generation, so collecting from friends is still a copy-paste exercise.
  • Receipt history doesn't always sync across devices or to the web.
  • Cross-platform coverage is limited — Android and web users may not have parity.

Stick with Tab if

  • You're happy with the current Tab workflow and don't need payment-link automation.
  • You only split bills on iOS and don't need history across devices.

Switch to SplitterBot® if

  • You want each person to get a one-tap Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal link with the amount pre-filled.
  • You're mixed-platform (iOS, Android, web) and want history that syncs across them.
  • You want quantity-based splits without manual workarounds.
  • You want active feature development and support.

How to switch

  1. 1Install SplitterBot from the App Store or Play Store.
  2. 2Set up your payment handles (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal) once during onboarding — they get embedded in every share.
  3. 3Snap the receipt the same way you would in Tab and assign items by tapping.

Try SplitterBot® on your next bill

Snap a photo of the receipt, tap who had what, send each person their share with a payment link pre-filled.

FAQ

Is SplitterBot's tap-to-assign as fast as Tab's?

Yes — the per-line assignment flow is the core of SplitterBot too. The screen layout is different, but the gesture is the same: tap an item, tap a person, done.

Does SplitterBot work on Android?

Yes. iOS, Android, and the web (web app coming soon).

Can I scan a receipt in the SplitterBot web app?

Web app is coming soon. Today, the iOS and Android apps handle scanning. Once the web app ships, scanning will work from the browser too.
